Marketplace Privacy Policy
Effective October 17, 2026
This policy explains what information the Masjid Bilal marketplace at marketplace.masjidbilal.net (the “Marketplace”) collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. The Marketplace is run by Muslim Society of Jersey Shore, Inc. (“Masjid Bilal,” “we,” “us”). By creating an account or using the Marketplace you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
Who we are
Muslim Society of Jersey Shore, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit religious organization (Tax ID 22-3384179) at 1733 US 9 N (Lakewood Rd), Toms River, NJ 08755. Questions about this policy can be sent to marketplace@masjidbilal.net or by phone to (732) 286-0300.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Your account: your name, email address and phone number, your password (we never see it in readable form), and whether you chose to receive emails and text messages.
- Your donations: the needs you donate to, the amounts, the dates, whether you asked to give anonymously, the email address for your receipt, how you tell us you paid, and any note or screenshot you upload as proof of payment.
- Your cart: the needs and amounts you add before you check out.
- Bids and purchases you make on donated items.
- Items you offer: the title, description, photos, condition, your idea of its value, and pickup details.
- Messages you send us, such as an email reply or a phone call.
Information collected automatically
- Cookies that keep you signed in and keep the site secure (see “Cookies” below).
- Technical information that our website server records when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you open, and the date and time.
Information we do not collect
We do not collect or store your credit or debit card number or your bank account number. When you pay by card, Zelle, PayPal or Venmo, the payment is handled by that service on its own pages and under its own privacy policy. We only learn that a payment was made, and its amount, from the payment service, your note, or your proof of payment.
How we use your information
- To create and manage your account and let you sign in.
- To record your donations, hold them for you, send you payment instructions, confirm your payment, and email your receipt.
- To run bidding and sales on donated items and to review items that community members offer.
- To send you messages about your account, donations and offers, and, if you opted in, alerts about new needs and items.
- To keep accounting and tax records and to follow the law.
- To protect the Marketplace and our community from fraud, abuse and security problems.
- To fix problems and improve the Marketplace.
Email and text messages
Email. We email you about your account, your donations (payment instructions and receipts) and your offers. Your donation receipt is sent by email only.
Text messages. We send texts only if you tick the text message box when you register. They may include a welcome message, payment instructions for a donation you placed, and alerts about new needs or items. Message and data rates may apply, and how often you hear from us varies. Reply STOP at any time to stop texts, or HELP for help. You do not have to agree to texts to donate or buy. We use Twilio to deliver text messages, and we do not share your phone number with anyone else for their own marketing.
What other people can see
- The public list of contributors and bidders shows your first name and the first letter of your last name, for example “Walaa E.” If you choose to give anonymously, it shows “Anonymous.”
- Totals and progress on each need include your donation once it is confirmed, without your name if you gave anonymously.
- Items you offer, including their photos and descriptions, are public once the team approves them. Your name and contact details are not shown with them.
- The Marketplace team can see the full details of your account and donations, including your contact information and any proof of payment you uploaded, so they can confirm payments, send receipts, and answer your questions. Even if you give anonymously, the team can see who you are so your payment can be matched.
Who we share information with
We do not sell, trade, rent or share our donors’ names or personal information with other organizations. This is consistent with the Donor Privacy Policy on masjidbilal.net. We use a small number of service providers who handle information only to help us run the Marketplace:
- our website hosting provider, which stores the site and its data;
- our email service, which delivers our messages and receipts;
- Twilio, which delivers text messages;
- Stripe, PayPal, Zelle and Venmo, only if you choose to pay with them, under their own policies;
- Google Fonts, which supplies the typefaces on our pages. When your browser loads them, Google can see your IP address.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to respond to a valid legal request, or to protect the rights, safety or property of Masjid Bilal, our community or others.
Cookies
The Marketplace uses only the cookies needed to keep you signed in and to keep the site secure. We do not use advertising cookies. If you block cookies, you will not be able to sign in or use your cart.
How long we keep information
We keep your account information while your account is open. We keep donation and payment records, receipts and proof of payment for as long as we need them for accounting, tax and audit purposes, even if you ask us to close your account. Photos and details of items you offered are kept while the item is listed and afterward as needed for our records. Unpaid donations are released after 21 days.
How we protect information
The Marketplace uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Passwords are stored in scrambled form. Only the Marketplace team can see donor details and proof of payment. No website or storage method is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security. If you think your account has been misused, please contact us right away.
Your choices
- You can see and update your name, email and phone number, and your message preferences, by contacting us. You can reset your password from the sign-in page.
- You can stop texts by replying STOP. You can stop emails that are not about a donation or your account by telling us.
- You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. We will respond as the law requires. We may need to keep some information, such as donation records, for legal and accounting reasons, and we may need to confirm who you are first.
To make a request, email marketplace@masjidbilal.net.
Children
The Marketplace is for adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Links to other sites
The Marketplace links to other websites, including masjidbilal.net and payment services. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, so please read their policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If we make a significant change, we will tell you by email or on the Marketplace.
